Who’s who: Elders

Sam Creighton
Year and Place of Birth: 1940, in the Peruvian Andes where my parents were missionaries.
Personal Details: Before retiring two years ago I worked as a Social Worker and Social Work manager for 35 years. I have been happily married to Catriona for 37 years and have two sons, one of whom is married and has a baby son. I have been a member of Westwood Baptist Church for around 35 years and have served as a deacon or an elder for almost all of that time. In addition to my present service as an elder, I am also involved in a number of other ways, including being the Coordinator for our church’s Vulnerable Persons’ Protection Policy.
Favourite Bible Passage: John 21 – Jesus and the disciples breakfast beside the Sea of Galilee.
Some favourite hymns/songs: “King of kings, majesty”; “In Christ alone”; “Thine be the glory”; “There is a Redeemer”; “Before the throne of God above”.
My vision for WBC: That our, “Statement of Purpose”, will increasingly become our, “Description of Reality”.

Harry Gray
Year and place of birth: Dennistoun, East Glasgow in 1943 during an air raid.
Personal details: I am a retired hospital doctor who continues to run the Student Health Service at the University of Strathclyde. I am married to May and we have had 3 children and have 5 grandchildren. My interests include humour, music and in particular, playing guitar and Scottish small pipes, and photography.
Favourite Bible passage: John 3: 16, a passage that, in 1963 when passing through Farme Cross on a number 70 SMT bus to East Kilbride, opened my eyes to God’s saving grace in my life.
Favourite Praise Songs: The Lord’s my Shepherd, All the way my Saviour leads me, King of Kings Majesty and Faithful One
I am glad to be part of a caring Christian community where every individual is encouraged to have a role in the worship of God, the ministry of His Word, service in the local area and intercession for the needs of the world.

Gordon Norman -
Hi, my name is Gordon and I’m the church secretary. I’m married to Janet and we have three children and five grandchildren.
In 1997 Janet and I, with our son, moved to East Kilbride. The hardest part of the move was finding a new church to attend. Although we tried quite a few churches in the local area we, as a family, felt drawn back time and time again to Westwood Baptist Church.
We were always assured of a warm welcome and a sense of belonging. After 3 months of searching we felt WBC was the place the Lord wanted us to be and it became our new spiritual home. We eventually applied for membership and have been here ever since.
Over the years we have been encouraged to grow in our walk with the Lord, me especially, to the point where I was elected as a Deacon, then to the position of secretary, not something I had envisioned to be called to do, when I set out on the path with Jesus.
Janet is active in various areas of the church life and our son plays in the “praise band”, where he met his wife. They now have a beautiful son and we another grandchild.
WBC exudes love and fellowship, is steeped in sound Biblical teaching and, for visitors, is a place of welcomed rest. If you are looking for a new place in which to worship God, then the warm hand of friendship is held out to you, just as it was to me and my family, all those years ago.
