Waiting on God/Soaking

It’s simply spending time in God’s Presence, rather than striving in prayer.  It’s about resting in His Presence, experiencing Him and choosing to be intimate with Him.  God desires that we would know Him.  We were each created in His image, created with a need for relationship.  God made it possible for each of us to have relationship with Him by sending His son, Jesus, to die on the cross for our sins.

While we base our theology on the Bible, our experiences with God make the truth come alive in our lives.

As we wait we focus on Him.  Waiting puts us in a position where we are often more able to hear His voice and receive His love.  It is also an opportunity for us to pour out our hearts to Him.  It’s about living in and enjoying an on-going relationship with our creator.

As people have soaked in God’s Presence, they have experienced profound heart changes.  Their marriages have been healed, their fears dispelled, depressions and sicknesses have left and lives have been transformed.

OK, so what actually happens?  Well, we turn up, maybe with a mat, a cushion and a blanket, and lie down or sit on a chair in the sanctuary.  There’s soft lighting and worship music playing.  A few folk have been asked to circulate quietly praying silently for individuals.  That’s all!  The point is that if we arrange to do it together then we actually make time to do it.  Ask around for folk’s stories of how they found it.

Men’s Weekend at Capenwray

Eight guys from WBC headed south on Friday 13th September to join about 130 others at Capenwray for their annual Men’s weekend.  Capenwray Hall and it’s grounds are just beautiful and the weather showed them at their best.  The singing in the times of worship was quite an experience.  Rob Whittaker, the College Principal, taught a series called ‘From Average to Awesome’ on how God uses  hard times to build us into the men he wants us to be, and how we can best cooperate in the process.  It was very wise, very practical and very entertaining.  Borrow the talk recordings from ones of the guys, (they are just as relevant for women).  On Saturday afternoon  there was target practice, archery, kayaking and clay pigeon shooting, and swimming, tennis, table tennis, snooker were available much of the time.  Saturday ended with a choice of a movie or the rodeo.

The food and the company were great too!

Women’s Retreat

On the 16th October 33 women from the fellowship ‘retreated’ to the Thornleigh Hotel in Grange over Sands for the weekend.

The weather was exceptionally kind to us so we had a great start with both accommodation and weather.

Our speaker was Sue Gilmour from Capenwray Bible School who lead our sessions very ably.  Her theme was ‘Under His Wings’ and she reminded us from scripture of the benefits of taking refuge under His wings in all the circumstances of life - using various women from the bible to illustrate her points.

Her friend Kim, also from Capenwray, was with us too and it was a joy to have both of them there.

We had good teaching, a lot of laughs and great fellowship and ministry times together.  Many of the group have spoken of how they were touched by God and blessed.

We are hoping to build on this with others times of getting together throughout the year.  So, if you missed out on the retreat watch out for more events.
